THE URBAN TRAUMA INFORMED PROGRAM GIVES YOU ACCESS TO ALL THIS FOR ONE FULL YEAR:

So many people of color, despite facing severe adversity, have broken the "cycle."

Since enslavement, systemic trauma in our urban centers is a result of poverty, overcrowded housing, poor physical and mental health, despair, violence, crime, and drug abuse.

By denying it's existence we deny our communities of color the chance to heal and break the cycle.

"Dr. Maysa Akbar is a prolific and inspiring author & speaker. Her presentations reach a wide audience – families, students, teachers, and administrators. Hartford Public Schools invited Dr. Akbar to our “Hopes and Dreams” Family Engagement Event in January 2020. During the conference, Dr. Akbar connected with our families by sharing her own testimony of experiencing and coping with urban trauma. Hartford Public Schools (HPS) families were so inspired and challenged by Dr. Akbar, that she returned in September 2020 to open the school year with a message to our staff, teachers, and administrators. Her address to HPS challenged us to look at the ways we may be perpetuating trauma in classrooms, school buildings, and in our interactions with students & families. Dr. Akbar’s book and her Urban Trauma training courses challenge you to reflect internally so your external perspective is different. Our students are carrying so much with them into classrooms but training educators to be urban trauma informed allows you to see things in a different context."

Nuchette M. Black-Burke, M. Ed.

As our country experiences a dual pandemic, COVID-19 and Racism, having the expertise of Dr. Akbar has been priceless. Utilizing the Urban TraumaⓇ Certification hybrid live/online course prepared our providers with the tools necessary to mitigate the exacerbated trauma resulting from our past and current realities. Dr. Akbar is a leading expert in racial trauma and engages her course participants to fully understand the intersectionality between racism and trauma. We continue to engage Dr. Akbar in multiple training series that has educated a combined audience of over 400 people.
